Happy Bastille Day! Here at Chez T, we do celebrate, because I’ve got some Frenchy running through my veins. The Frenchy could be the reason for my formidable temper, but then again, I’ve also got Irish floating around in my family tree, and they’re supposed to be a tad fiery, too.
But no emotional outbursts or fire-breathing-dragon routines today. Today it’s about finding the !!! in my life.
!!!: This list, devised by Miss D. and approved by Miss M. On this list are foods that Miss M. is going to give a second chance. Or even a first chance, if you are cauliflower stems. Expanding picky horizons is definitely cause for !!!.
!!!: In addition to running her Detective Agency, Miss D. has decided that she wants to be the next Sophia Coppola. I say, “Why not?” She has energy to spare.
!!!: A cocktail for Bastille Day! This is super-light and refreshing; perfect for our 95 degree weather!
Lillet au Citron
recipe from The Denver Post
serves 2
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
Ice
1 cup white Lillet*
Chilled club soda
Lemon slices for garnish
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Cool syrup completely.
Fill 2 glasses with ice. Add 1/2 cup Lillet to each and 1-2 tablespoons of the lemon syrup, or to taste. Top off the drinks with a splash or two of soda and garnish with lemon.
*Lillet is a fortified French white wine, generally served chilled as an apertif. It’s delicious!
!!!: This suitcase is getting ready again–I’ll be gone for a quick weekend trip with my main man. I’ll be back Monday.

1.) The way kids spell words on their own gets me every time. 2.) That drink sounds yummy. Light and yummy. 3.) Have fun on your weekend getaway!
I need to give babey tamotos another try, too…have a great trip!!
Have a wonderful mini trip :)
!!! things:
–Spain winning the WC, obviously.
–Getting the urge to write outside of blog posts again
–Finding some fabulous new music online
–Eating way too much Spanish food on account of WC win
That drink looks delicious–I love Lillet! My favorite way is in a Vesper–2 parts gin, 1 part vodka, splash or two of Lillet, shaken to be very cold and served with a lemon twist in a cold glass. Happy travels!
Oo where are you off to? And do tell how the vegetable/fruit tryouts went! xxx
Hooray for Bastille Day! The cocktail looks cool and classy, very French! Have a marvelous weekend away from it all.
Ooooo – thanks for giving me a reason to celebrate with a cocktail (as if I needed one!) And have a wonderful weekend with your hubby! You deserve it!
I love this whole “!!!” concept!!! That suitcase…woah,…exciting! The last trip I took with just my husband was, well…does a night at the hospital count? Enjoy~
mmm- cauliflower- I love when it is made into a souffle with cheese, or even blended as a coup (with cheese). I’m hungry now.
Glad to see yours are not writing foods off because they think they don’t like them. Thats a pet peeve of mine. People should try something before they say they don’t like it- maybe even a few times.
What a beautiful Summer drink….way to go Denver Post.
Well Bastille day is my birthday so today has been a !!! day with some lovely cards and a surprise homecoming this evening from my husband who arrived with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and I honestly cannot remember the last time I got flowers and these are beautiful roses which are my favorite.
Sounds like a wonderful summer drink but I still prefer my glass of chardonnay which I shall be drinking while I skype this evening with my oldest bestest friend who is in Oz – another !!! for the week!
but but but where are the lamb meatballs? Job #1 for the Detective Agency is for the gumshoe to FIND THE MEATBALLS!
and now I’m singing “Oh my darling, OH my darling, OH MY DARLING Clementine….”
Happy travels jetsetter.
Dude. Dude.
It’s Clemontime. C’mon.
I feel like the misspellings of “berry” must say something about the way Miss D/M pronounce the word. And I find that absolutely fascinating.
Yet again, I find myself wanting children, but for all the wrong reasons.
Dude, yo, where’s that mango snazz you promised?
On the way! It’s still brewing, but should be ready either today or tomorrow.
A trip!!! Sounds goooood. (so does the drink. just saying) :)
Have fun! Can’t wait to see you on your next trip.
(and I LOVE the list of things to re-try or try)
Personally? I don’t think you can have ENOUGH exclamation points on a suitcase for a getaway with your guy. Have a great time!!
Here’s my surefire way to have my kids try any food in the world: prepare it for myself. Sit down with a nice book or magazine, ready to enjoy my alone time. Take a fork and prepare to take a big bite. Within moments there will be a child demanding my plate. In restaurants my kids will be eating queso and will start eyeing up my salad! Next time they order the salad! Is that weird.
Now all I have to do is give cauliflower stems another try…
No matter how you cut it, a summer cocktail always makes me !!!
Ok I will celibate any holiday with a cocktail, guess I am off to the liquor store for me. Love Miss D.’s eating action plan! Not sure about cauliflower stems myself.
Linda–I love your tip on getting kids to try new things! You are a genius.
J. Harker–what? Being able to laugh at their misspellings isn’t a valid reason to have kids? I say it is! Waiting, like jc, for the mango hooch.
Heather–is it wrong that I looked at Miss D.’s spelling of blueberry and thought, “bluebeer?” Oh, so very many miles to go…:)
Happy Bastille Day! For someone who loves cooking as much as you do, I’m sure it can get frustrating when your kids go through the picky, fussy stage. I know I am.
And how do you always manage to make me crave a cocktail so early in the day? Oh right. I’m at work. That’s why. I’m dying for one right now.
And yay to weekend getaways. So happy for you guys. I’m also getting away but not the romantic kind. The babe is tagging along, but it’ll still be nice to be away from the city a bit.
I’ll tell you what will make me !!!….it’s that drink!
Have fun on your weekend getaway!
What is Bastille Day? What is being celebrated? I’m all German but I’ll celebrate too.
Oh my, her list has some of my favorite foods. Pickles, raspberries, and blueberries?! What’s not to love?
I just LOVE Miss D!!!
That is some serious !!!
Hurray for Bastille Day!!!
And most of all, hooray for your getaway!!
Have a fabulous time!!
I’m starting to think that Miss D and Poonch would be fast friends. When can we get them together?
I just unpacked my suitcase from my past two weekends away. But I could really use a weekend away with my man. have a great trip and come back with some more !!!
Oh, goodness (as I’m walking around admiring) I LOVE YOUR NEW PLACE!
WOw..
I feel like I’m in one of those mansions…I love it!
Oooh. You changed things over here! That’s what I get for being away so long. Have fun on your trip. I’ll come back for a longer visit when you return.
Oh my gosh, too cute =) …and this mommy totally needs a few of those cocktails…they sound just right. Have fun!
I am loving this cocktail. Will have to try it tonight or tomorrow.
Glad you got some Bastille Day fun! I worked… but it was a French cooking class, so I’ll count that as some celebrating?? Would have rather been drinking your cocktail :)
I just posted my first !!!– check out my Perfect Pairing blog. Thanks for the idea!
I may not get out much…that is a suitcase? Am I looking at it wrong? It looks a bit like a portable vacuum. I hope your time with your honey sweeps you off your feet.
Love the new look! Kids willing to try new foods always earns !!!
Have fun with your main man!
I am all about the strawbeer, bluebeer, and blakbeer. Adorable.
That drink looks awesome… made me decide to go make mimosa immediately. It’s hot out and it’s Saturday… two perfectly good reasons to drink before noon.
That cocktail loves divine. So very, very !!!
ooohhh…bowling night w: my in-laws, friends, and nieces who were visiting for the week was tres !!!
have a large time this weekend!
Love the lists. Enjoy your trip!
I am thinking your refreshing drink needs a splash of vodka. I had to laugh at my own post. I posted this really great blueberry-lemon iced tea recipe. The drink includes no alcohol and I knew my foodie blogger friends would be saying WTH ( what the heck)…:-)
Hope you enjoyed your weekend. Cheers to your children expanding their food horizons. I am still trying to convince my own son that chicken tenders are not their own food group.
Ohh I’d love a little cocktail right about now!
The food list is awesome and I wouldn’t mind trying the blakbeer (fab!)
Her sign is priceless. I’m so glad you’ve preserved it here. Show it to her children someday.
Not big on fruit, is she?!
Your girls are so cool. I wish they could mentor my girl!
Also, whatever a Lillet is, that drink looks divine!
Don’t forget that the Coppolas also make wine now.
