In Honor

June 17, 2011

Thank you, Dad. I know raising girls wasn’t easy.

Sometimes, I know you felt outnumbered.

Sometimes you had to get your hands (and knees) dirty.

Girls grow so fast that they sometimes make you dizzy.

They also are sometimes mouthy, insolent creatures. Ungrateful little pills who want to make you tear your hair out. Or open a can of Whoop Ass. Thanks for not doing that. Even when I deserved it mightily. I know I don’t say it often enough, but thank you for all you’ve done, and all you continue to do. You rock, Wallet Man.

Thank you, my husband, for your stillness, for your calm in the midst of all of the storming.

Thank you for reminding me that this job doesn’t have to be all business. There’s time to wrestle and have a water fight on a 100-degree day and cheer like a loon at a baseball game. There is time.

Thank you for letting your girls–all of us–know that you aren’t going anywhere. You have our backs, and our hearts, and our little hands in yours.

I was going to say “Awwwww!” but that would be redundant as someone else already got to it.

Truly, there is nothing more beautiful than seeing your man being tender and sweet and real with his child.

And fathers of daughters win bonus points for putting up with all that…girl…stuff.

You are killing me, girl! Love the old photos, and the ones of your handsome husband! When I look at your sweet face in those pictures and your dad, just sitting there so tolerantly – that’s love! (I just want to say, my dad never did that stuff…)
Happy Father’s Day to the men in your life!

Oh gosh, I love the photos! Your mother was the camera person…? Tell your dad that my husband has asked for Chicago hot dogs today. :)

Happy Father’s Day to your dad and your hunky husband.

Love this post. I lost my good father much too soon in life but am lucky to have a wonderful husband who is a terrific father to our son.

Happy father’s day to your dad and that hubba hubba hubby of yours.
