Yes, we are still going. We leave on Friday. And yes, it is okay to snicker and rub your hands in glee a little, because you know that at some point, there’s going to be an incident. Which will, in turn, make a juicy story when I get back. A pathetic one maybe, but still juicy. I have come to expect nothing less.
As much as our family loves Mexico, it is the Official Homeland of internet and cellphone assholery. Nothing ever works, or if it does, it fades in and out every ten minutes.
In one way, it’s good. I’m forced to unplug and damage my moneymaker on waterslides with the Minxes and take my morning walk along the beachfront, squishing my toes in wet sand and trying to figure out where I’m going or who I am, which is rather pathetic when you are over 40 and still sitting in the tide, head in hands, wondering if you’ll ever figure this damn thing out.
In another way, it’s bad, because I won’t be able to keep up with you–and that’s deprivation—because it is such a joy for me. To hear your words, and the way you pour out your efforts and hearts every week. It humbles me and inspires me, and I hope you know that I will miss you.
That said, please try to drop by for tomorrow’s post, which I’m linking up with MamaKat. I promise you, it will make you laugh and shake your head and feel like a much better parent than I am. Which you probably are.
While I’m gone, I’ll post some funny quotes that tickle me or poems* that touch me, just in case you decide to drop by. No need to comment unless something really strikes you; this is just my little way of trying to stay in touch with you. Because I’ll be thinking of you, even as I’m enduring serious waterslide rash and throwing back a few cervezas.
Best wishes for the next week, readers! I have the coolest blog community ever. Now if only you would come over and do the washing and packing for three people…because that’s where I’m headed today…
*re: the poems–for some reason my computer isn’t letting me put in the line breaks with spaces, so apologies to both poets and readers. But I think you naturally get a feel for when the line break “should” be. I have no idea why the computer is being such an asshole about it, but I know you’ll still love the poems.

Sigh…I, for one, will miss you once again. You really need to stop taking all these lavish and fancy vacations, as your eloquent posts and comments on my lame-ass posts brighten up my day. However, I will eagerly await your return and the posts on your travels.
Enjoy your time off–and unplugged–and if you ever “figure that damned thing out,” let me know. I’m working on that thing myself. ;)
Abby,
Your book is packed in my bag for a beach read!
Have a great vaca Kitch! You will be missed, but seriously, unplugging is grand. Enjoy hubs and the minxes. xoxo
Can I come sit in the tide with you?
Unplugged and enjoy. I’ll send a little prayer up to the vacation gods on your behalf. Prayer or sacrifice… whatever it takes.
Erica,
I think the sacrifice has already been taken care of. The coyotes left me another present (eg: a mangled dead rabbit on the lawn) this morning. And I’ll sit in the tide with you any time.
::sighs:: You will be missed. But have a wonderful, wonderful time!
Elizabeth,
I wish I could stow you and Michael in my carry-on bag so you could make tapas for me. Well, and to see you, too, of course!
I’ll be crossing my fingers that the bad vacation karma will take it easy on you this year! Enjoy the beach and beautiful weather. There is nothing quite like beach time to bring out the existential questions in all of us…
Phoo-d,
I think it’s the shifting of the tide or something–brings out the shifts in the mind, too.
My fingers are crossed, too! I won’t even write the “b” word out loud.
Happy trails, tails, tides, and cervezas!
GEW,
Thank you for reminding me–must. pack. extra. baggies. :)
Looking forward to your tale of motherhood!
And contemplating your life is never lame regardless of age! I still plan on taking long melancholy walks and thinking ‘who am I?’ when I’m 75 or whatever. They’re too enjoyable, in a weird way, to ever leave fully behind.
Jenna,
When I am 75, I’ll probably wake up one morning and “get it!” And then drop dead in my oatmeal, face first. ;)
I would give anything to squish my toes in sand, even for a little while. Enjoy! The tide, the minxes, the cervezas. And yeah, the whole who am I, where am I going? That shit there will further ruin even the most mishap-laden vacation, so let it go (at least for the time you are away. Resume all gnashing of what’s it all for when you return (where we’ll all still be doing it as well)).
Arnebya,
You are a wise woman. I gnash my terrible teeth far too often.
THIS. “trying to figure out where I’m going or who I am, which is rather pathetic when you are over 40 and still sitting in the tide, head in hands, wondering if you’ll ever figure this damn thing out”
Darling, that’s my life. And my novel. And why I love you.
Have a great trip. Jealous. And not. Dreading and gleefully anticipating the stories.
Nap,
I think that’s why we “get” each other so well, even over miles. The head in the hand, feet in the sand.
My son is in school for a few more weeks and my mind is far from vacation mode, but reading this inspires me to plan one soon.
Have a fantastic time with your lovelies. I have no doubt that any incident that occurs will be written about in a hilarious way.
Belinda,
Hilarious, with some kind of barf bag involved, I’m sure. xo
Have a great vacation. And maybe you can think of posts to write while you are pondering the meaning of life. They are not mutually exclusive you know.
A of A,
But then what do I do? Come home and whine, “Whaaaaaat is this all about? I am still clueless.” But you are right, I’m gonna do some thinking. Had lunch with Mama and Daddy today and it stirred up a good pot of soup.
Have a wonderful time! Last time we were in Mexico, we were there four days, and didn’t get internet connection to work until day 3.5. And that doesn’t sound like a big deal, until I add that I was in the country for the purpose of promoting the resort and area via SOCIAL MEDIA. To do that, Resort, I’ll need a connection. That said, if I hadn’t been working, I’d have been glad for the forced disconnect!
Amy,
I know! It’s crazy there. You’re at a freaking Westin and don’t have to worry about food or dirty water or anything, but you cannot call anyone. (?)
I’m small, as in, “Fits into suitcases easily.”
xo
HAVE A GREAT TIME! We’ll miss you.
Alexandra,
If ya wanna come in the carry-on, you can hold the barf bags :) Miss D. is always good for a hurl or two. I will miss you too, beautiful.
Have a great time! (How is that you can pack for vacation and still write personal responses to all these comments??? As always, in awe.)
And a margarita for me! Have fun with your packing. :)
Oh I am soooo looking forward to your account of your vacation!
Have a great time, drink as much cocktails as you can and enjoy yourself!
And sorry but I hop on a plane to help you pack but what with the time difference and all I’ probably arrive when you are already leaving….
I always miss you when you’re gone! Looking forward to the stories when you get back.
Can’t wait to hear all about the fun you have, and the mishaps, too!
Yay! So excited for you. Here’s hoping nothing gets stolen and that all your skin stays put!!
Healthy travel prayers for you and yours.
Ok… As much as I love the laughter that comes with your vacation posts I sincerely hope that the Gods are smiling down on you this go round! Happy vacation my dear :)

A1e7L9 I really like and appreciate your blog article.Really thank you! Awesome.
Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is magnificent blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
