For Hummingbird

October 4, 2013

Hey, Hummingbird.

You are 8 years old today and that seems impossibly grown up and so OLD to your Mama, the mother who is so truly old that you once posed the question, “Hey, Mama? Did you ever meet George Washington?”

Yeah.  That One.

But you’re funny about it now, because I can say, “Back when mommy was young, you know, like when dinosaurs roamed the Earth,” and you get it and give that hiccupy laugh that only you can give and then you chase me around with T-Rex claws flapping at your side and lordy, it’s so much everything.

Just like you.

You know that, right?

You are so much everything,  my little bird.

Happy Birthday to your “baby,” because although they continue to grow, the little ones will always be our babies.

My son turned nine recently . . . 8 and 9 . . . it IS that sweet time where they’re still childlike, but with some of the benefits of being like a real little person.

Very sweet post!

Rob— Hell to the No! I did not know George Washington. I might have met Cleopatra once, though…

You are beautiful, Hummingbird. You are smart and funny and loved and you are going to do incredible things (almost all of them because you are a Libra and we are fandamntastic).

8 is such a great age – still somewhat of a child but yearning to be a grown up – it goes by so fast, doesn’t it?! My baby will be 22 in March! But she’ll always be my baby. :D

Squaaaaaaaah that beautiful girl is not eight already! I remember when I started reading your blog, she was FOUR. She’s doubled her age.

Happy, happy birthday to your hummingbird.
