Hello, Readers. My friend Erin Margolin and I have a favor to ask of you. It won’t take a lot of time, and it doesn’t involve hard labor or gobs of cash, so worry not. It won’t tax you much at all.
This week, Erin and I would be so pleased if you’d take a loved one out for ice cream.
How’s that for a request?
You see, our dear friend Alexandra lost her mother yesterday after a lengthy illness. There aren’t words for this kind of loss, and we’re not asking that you send them. We’re asking that you grab a child or a parent or a spouse or a bestie and gobble ice cream with them on a summer day this week.
Alexandra’s mother loved nothing more than going out for ice cream, and Alexandra loved nothing more than taking her. I know she’d give a million dollars to be able to do it just one more time, but sometimes life doesn’t work that way.
So let’s do it for Alexandra. In honor of her mother and the bonding that comes from licking icy sweet cream from a cone. It’s the language of love.
If you’re of a mind, you can tweet about it or Instagram it or Facebook it with the hashtag #icecreamforAlexandra. That way, she’ll know that her sisters in arms are thinking of her, and sending her the only solace we can.
We love you, Alexandra. We’re here.

We are an ice cream eating family. Absolutely. Amazing of you and Erin to do this for Alexandra. xo
The level of cometogetherness has been positively amazing.
What a wonderful gesture of love and support. We’re in! Let her know that she and her family will be in our prayers!
Beautiful remembrance…
Oh, how I understand this. Ice cream all around tonight for the whole family.
Thanks, Erin and Dana.
:)
Man, this is so sweet and awesome. Is this Alexandra from good day regular people?
Christie,
Yep. That is our Alexandra. I am s0 happy to see your w0nderful self on board. Hugs off the hi-dive, awesomeness.
What a thoughtful idea… my kiddoes and I would love to join in! And my prayers are with your friend…
Aw. I will definitely take someone out for ice cream this weekend! xoxo
Hi Caitlin! It was s0 great to meet you and sit next to you at crazy-ass BlogHer. Email me when you have time?
We are in. Can’t tweet her because I’m a lame non-social-media-user but please send her one for us???
Done! Brownies, Phish Food, whipped cream. Boys standing around with bowls and spoons and no need to say anything.
Such a simple request. And a beautiful reminder to savor the moments with the ones we love.
Consider it done.
My husband and I just went out for ice cream. We love to do that in the summer! I only wish I had read this post first. I would have taken pictures with thoughts of Alexandra and the loss of her mother in mind. What a sweet way to remember her…
Lovely idea.
P.s. Miss D is so grown up.
I am just coming to see this.
I know thank you is not enough, and I hope everyone here realizes what this movement, this stepping out of our routine… to say I love you to those we love, to enjoy the slow lick of an ice cream cone, and how we can feel that time with words and smiles, is really what going for ice cream is about.
THANK you to everyone. This means so much to me. I hope you know how touched I am, and grateful, for the love and support during this heart breaking time for me.
Enjoy your ice cream, take the time that it takes to lick an ice cream cone…. and just be together. Ice cream can’t be gobbled down quickly, and that’s where the magic of the action is, my mother and I would just sit, and in that slow sitting, the words and stories and smiles would come out.
THANK YOU so much, Dana and ERIN. Thank YOU so much. xo
