Happy Halloween! This story comes to you from the Family Archives.

One September, we recieved one of those over-priced Halloween catalogs in the mail. (Curse on you, over-priced Halloween costumes that sneak into the mail in September, when I’ve forgotten about you!)

By the time you could say “Boo!” the girls had their hearts set on $100 per costume finery. I did what I always did when faced with a conundrum: I said, “Wait and ask Daddy.”

Heh. As if Daddy ever says “no.”

Miss M picked a very fancy, very odd costume–sort of a bat/cat/witch hybrid. She was quite pleased.

The day before Halloween, Miss D. blurted out in the middle of a math exam: “Hey Mrs. Lewis? Guess What? My sister is gonna be a  BITCH for Halloween!”

Bat+Cat+Witch=Bitch.  Get it?

Thank God Mrs. Lewis had a great sense of humor because she called me during her planning period and we had a wonderful cackle about it.

In honor of you, Readers–and bitches everywhere–Happy Halloween!

Hahahaha! I love it! My 4yo is into portmanteaus as well. I wonder if she would’ve come up with the same thing. Recently, she did call a frozen waffle that came with two pieces stuck together (so we could break it apart) a “twaffle” (twin + waffle) but of course the grownups were stuck on the twa… :-)

And yes, I know that catalog well. It goes straight in the trash before my girls could even get their hands on it.

Happy Halloween sweet mama! :-)

Well, I hope it didn’t set you back $100, but I must admit, she looks absolutely adorable in it. :)
Belated Happy Halloween to all the bat bitches out there.
