Just Write: Nerd Moment

November 12, 2013

Just Write. Because life is awesome.

Yet another reason why I never had a date in high school and never leave my house.

Scene: It is a foggy morning in Longmont and the phone rings.
me: “Hello?”
dude: “hi, it’s Rick from ____ plumbing. How are you today?”
Me: “I’m good, how are you?”
dude: “I’m good. I was just letting you know that I’m about 10 minutes from your house with the furnace equipment. Can I stop by?”
Me: “Sure, as long as you arrive with head intact!”
dude: *crickets*
Me: “Heh. It’s foggy out, you know.”
dude: *crickets* “I look forward to seeing you so you can explain what that means.”
Me: *nervous laugh* “Foggy outside? Ichabod Crane?”
dude: “Uh, Yeah. See you soon, ma’am.”

Embrace your nerdiness! You wouldn’t have wanted to date the dudes in high school who wouldn’t get the reference anyway. I promise. I still claim I married the Fab Hub because he understood a reference to Waiting for Godot and spoke at length about it.

Kitchy, no one EVER gets my jokes so I feel your pain, hard core. At least your quips are smart-person funny. Mine are just too off-the-wall for anyone to bother with.

My son told me to stop trying to be funny a long time ago, because no one gets me – I, too, am nerdy! We just need to use our humor with fellow nerds. totally love this conversation, because it was so perfect for a foggy day. Hopefully, he arrived with his head intact :)

Clearly, this guy did not have enough coffee in the morning to get your witty remark. :)
